After Anthony Van Dyck (1599 - 1641)A large Polychrome wool Tapestry, probably Imperial Russia, St. Petersburg, early 19th Century "The Capture of Samson," with all round accentuated border, the centre upper band with a coat of arms and each corner with an oval shield depicting a grotesque mask. The centre with Delilah seated on a settee while the Philistines tied Samson with seven bow strings.* In the middle of the 18th Century Imperial Russia began to weave tapestry based on paintings by the great Dutch Masters such as Rubens, Rembrandt & Van Dyck, approx. (185cms x 279cms) 6' 1" x 9' 2". (1)
A very good large set of 14 (12 + 2 carvers) George III, Hepplewhite Dining Chairs, with shield shaped backs, the carved and pierced splats with urn and foliage swags, the bow fronted seats upholstered and covered in wine coloured hide leather, and raised on square tapering legs with spade feet. An Ascot gun metal open face chronograph pocket watch, the 43mm white dial having a Roman numeral chapter ring, centre stop watch hand, two subsidiary dials, all in a gun metal coloured case 52mm diameter marked Acier 55415 top wind movement marked "The Ascot Patent 20th June 1887", rose coloured bow to top, watch is running at present time although no guarantee is given.
A large Bow polychrome mug: of slender baluster form with grooved loop handle and heart shaped terminal, painted with a floral bouquet on each side below an iron-red border of stylised flower heads within scrolling arches, circa 1765, 14 cm high [some discolouration to rim].*Note Cf. A matched pair of Bow figures of Harlequin and Columbine: after the Meissen originals, Harlequin playing the bagpipes and wearing a pointed hat and traditional costume, Columbine playing a hurdy-gurdy and wearing a blue and yellow bodice and floral decorated skirt, circa 1760-65, 12 cm [some restoration].
Japy Frères, Paris, a French pink porcelain clock garniture: the eight-day duration movement striking the hours and half-hours on a bell with an outside countwheel and stamped with the trademark for the maker Japy Frères, Paris, along with the trademark for the retailer Henry Marc, Paris, the round pink porcelain dial decorated with painted floral decoration and having gilt Roman hour numerals and gilt-brass spade hands, the tapered gilt-metal case having applied scroll mouldings with engraved decoration, inset pink porcelain panels and tapered decorative porcelain pillars to the sides, all surmounted with a gilt-metal figure of a putto holding a bow and arrow, the rear of the case stamped for the casemaker Mourey of Paris, complete with a pair of matching five-light side-pieces, height 39cms clock, 42cms side-pieces.* Biography For details of Japy Frères see lot no. 42084/1.
A late 18th Century green lacquer and gilt chinoiserie bow-fronted hanging corner cupboard:, with fret cut shaped pediment and ball finial, decorated with birds amidst scrolling floral foliage centred by a shell, having interior fixed shelves enclosed by a pair of doors decorated with figures amidst pagodas and birds amidst flowers and foliage, heightened in gilt, within gilt line ornament, 60cm (1ft 11 3/4in) across, 117cm (3ft 10in) high.
