Sir William Russell Flint RA, a framed pencil sectional drawing of the Airship R34 taken from a war time notebook, showing sections of frame looking aft, bow and stern views, side view showing arrangement of frames etc. Approximately 31.7cm x 10cm and attractively mounted. The reverse of the frame with Royal Academy label from the Sir William Russell Flint Exhibition, 1962 and pencil inscription “My job was with HMA R34. A double page from my war-time notebook. The first aircraft of any sort to cross the Atlantic. W. Russell Flint 1917” and in ink with further details regarding capacity, length, gross lift, maximum speed etc. VGC. Note: The R34 was the first aircraft to fly East to West over the Atlantic and the first to fly a return trip. Alcock and Brown had achieved the first to fly the Atlantic a few weeks before. Sir William Russell Flint was born in 1880 and became well known as an artist for the Illustrated London News from 1903 to 1907. He served with the RNAS during the war and continued with the RAF becoming Admiralty Assistant Overseer-Airships between 1918-1919. He died in 1969.

This souvenir cover with 5 cent stamp, addressed to B.A. Brady of New Jersey is signed on the face by “R Booth Captain R100 1930”, “George Meager 1st Officer R-100 1929-1931” and on the reverse by crew members N.G. Mann, Cyril Broughton, Thomas Hobbs, Ralph H Deverell, C Wilson and G.E. Long, Coxon. VGC; an H.M.A. R-100 Christmas and New Year greeting card, the cover with a gilt embossed crowned wing emblem of HMA R-100, the inside showing snapshot of the vessel at St Huberts, Montreal, blue silk ribbon bow to centre edge, Christmas greeting dated 1930, GC, a clean example with v minor marking; 2 relevant newspaper cuttings, the first: a page “First Pictures of R-100 taken in Canada” from the Family Herald and Weekly Star of Wednesday August 13, 1930; the second a column showing the “British Dirigible, R-100 shown moored at the $1,000,000 mast at St. Hubert Field, which will not make any extended flights over Canada due to the delay in repairing her damaged fin….” GC with fold creasing.
