Purdey, 314 1/2 Oxford Street, London, serial no. 2350 for 1832, with 30in. rebrowned twist octagonal barrel signed in full at the breech and rifled with ten grooves, tangent rear-sight with platinum centre-line, patent breech inlaid with two platinum lines and with pierced platinum vent, finely scroll engraved tang decorated with a tiger-mask, signed flat detented lock with patent safety, engraved with scrollwork and a recumbent stag, and retaining traces of original case-hardened finish, figured walnut half-stock (minor crack on left side of fore-end) with chequered grip and fore-end, engraved iron mounts including trigger-guard engraved with a tiger on the bow and retaining traces of original blued finish, patent grip safety with finger-rest, set trigger, iron sling eyes, and brass-mounted wooden ramrod, London proof marks, in brass-bound two-tier oak case (lining and partitions removed, tray damaged), probably original, with loading rod, the lid lining detached with Purdey trade label with handwritten loading instructions, the exterior with circular brass escutcheon, accompanied by two additional barrels, the first unsigned 28 3/8in. browned twist octagonal 25-bore barrel rifled with two grooves fitted with tangent rear-sight and side-mounted rail for a telescopic sight, scroll engraved case-hardened patent breech with pierced platinum plug, and wooden ramrod with horn-cap, London proof marks, the second 32 7/8in. browned twist 8-bore smoothbore barrel by Thomas Horsley, Maker, York, scroll engraved case-hardened patent breech with pierced platinum plug, and brass-mounted ramrod, London proof marks, in an associated lined mahogany gun case (partitions removed). Conn.', windage adjustable fore-sight with spirit level, action finely engraved with scrollwork and a tiger and leopard, marked 'Soper's Patent' and retaining traces of case-hardened finish, figured walnut pistolgrip half-stock with chequered grip and fore-end, large vernier-adjustable sight mounted at the wrist with second mounting-block on the heel of the butt for shooting from the back position, finely engraved iron mounts including trigger-guard decorated with a tiger on the bow. A CASED 15-BORE DOUBLE-BARRELLED PERCUSSION SPORTING GUN by W. Parker, Field & Sons, Makers to Her Majesty, 233 Holborn, London, serial no. 9151, circa 1850, with 30in. rebrowned twist sighted barrels signed on the rib, serial numbered patent breeches each with pierced platinum plug and with gold-inlaid maker's mark bordered by engraved scrollwork on the rib between, scroll engraved tang and signed locks, the latter each decorated with a differing scene, that on the right of two pheasants and that on the left a hare, figured walnut half-stock with chequered grip, engraved iron mounts including trigger-guard decorated with a pointer on the bow, silver escutcheon and barrel-bolt escutcheons, and original brass-tipped serial numbered ramrod with worm, London proof marks, in fitted oak case lined in green baize with nipple-wrench and wad-punch, the lid with flush-fitting brass carrying-handle and rectangular escutcheon engraved 'M. Harland / Sutton Hall'.
A FINE 14-BORE PERCUSSION SPORTING GUN by Wilkinson & Son, serial no. 4600 for 1836, with 32in. two-stage etched twist barrel in the Spanish manner with gold fore-sight and chiselled girdle, the muzzle and octagonal breech section each inlaid with engraved gold decoration (minor loss), the latter also inlaid in gold with the arms of Adair, case-hardened patent breech with pierced platinum plug and inlaid with two gold lines and two bands of engraved gold decoration, finely scroll engraved case-hardened tang and signed lock, finely figured maple half-stock with chequered grip, finely scroll engraved blued iron mounts including square-backed trigger-guard decorated with a pheasant in a wooded landscape on the bow, border engraved shield-shaped gold escutcheon, border engraved silver barrel-bolt escutcheons and fore-end cap, original brass-mounted ramrod with worm, and some original finish, London proof marks.
