An interesting English porcelain plate, circa 1765Possibly Isleworth, of plain circular shape with a flat rim, painted in blue with a mixed flower spray including a thorny rose within a border of trailing floral sprigs alternating with finely painted insects, 23.8cm diamFootnotes:ProvenanceSusi and Ian Sutherland Collection, Bonhams, 3 October 2007, lot 312Illustrated by Massey, Pearce and Howard, Isleworth Pottery and Porcelain: Recent Discoveries (2003), p.109 as a piece with Isleworth characteristics, but not supported by archaeological evidence. The plate is mistakenly described as printed but upon closer inspection is carefully painted. While an early Isleworth origin is probable, another London maker from the 1760s must also be considered. See Adams and Redstone, Bow Porcelain (1981), p.175, pl.104 for an octagonal plate with a very similar design ascribed to Bow.For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
