From AD 1,000-5,000, it was an important part of the silk route between Europe and Central Asia. Late 19th Century Continental Copy of a 17th Century Rapier, shallow diamond section blade cut with 2 half-length fullers, cast iron guard pierced with arcading, writhen iron quillons (one missing) and knuckle bow, shell-shaped pommel, iron wire bound grip. Blade 83cms. Good condition and age patina.
Spanish Military Broadsword c.1725, broad straight double edge blade deeply stamped in the short fullers ENRIQUE COEEL EN ALAMANIA, regulation iron ‘rapier’ hilt with large guards screwed to rings integral with reversed quillons and knuckle bow all with balusters, small button pommel, in plain leather scabbard. Blade 92cms, overall 109cms. Generally good condition, grip wire and scabbard mounts missing, hilt moderately pitted, age worn overall.
