Oil painting on papier machè, allegedly by Sir Thomas Lawrence (Bristol 1769 - London 1830). Cupid with bow and arrow, 11x16. With 21x22 frame. Small fall color. Portraitist acclaimed and considered the most popular in Europe during his lifetime. He performed many works of great elegance, some of which are kept at Windsor Castle. With the British commercial expansion of the nineteenth century, the new enriched are captivated by the popular trend of having a portait painted and Sir Thomas Lawerence was a painter high in demand during the Giorgianana era. At just 20 years old he becomes a Royal Academy artist with the approval and protection of Joshua Reynolds. His paintings are a document of English society of the late eighteenth, early nineteenth century. A rare virtuosity of the technique and a warm palette are easly visible in his portraits, which emphasizes the character and, at the same time, do not enhance it with the tricks that often resulted in bad taste. In this particular painting, the bright light from above, sweet, moist eyes, curly and shiny hair, rich and warm palette, is the typical expression of a typical irrefutable pictorial skills of Sir Lawrence Thomans
