An 18th Century Continental Small Sword, possibly for a boy, the 75cm double edge steel blade with rounded tip, the brass hilt with foliate cast boat shape guard, foliate cast grip, knuckle bow and pommel, with brass mounted leather scabbard, 92cm. Black patching to blade. Guard is a little wobbly. Leather scabbard has a crease split.
An 18th Century Moroccan/Arab Nimcha (Mahratta Sabre), the 90.5cm single edge double fullered and spear point steel blade signed at the ricasso in Arabic script, with rhinoceros horn saw-handle hilt, the steel downswept double crossguard and upswept knuckle bow with gold koftgari decoration and with green enamelled collar, the red velvet covered scabbard with silver mounts chased and inlaid with green enamelled foliage and with twin ring suspension, 108cm. Minor black patching to blade. Some wear to the gold koftari and enamelling on the hilt and scabbard mounts. Velvet pile of the scabbard is very worn, with some loss of fabric. Generally in good condition.
Two Masai Spears, one with leaf shape head, plain socket, wood haft and square tapering spike butt, the other with leaf shape head and twisted socket, short wood haft and square tapering butt with squared off terminal; an Indonesian Self Bow, the raffia string bound to the nocks with leather, together with a hide quiver of bamboo arrows with metal heads (4)
A Victorian 1827 Pattern Rifle Volunteer Sword, the etched, straight, single edge, fullered blade, length 83 cm, bearing crowned Victoria monogram and with Volunteer Rifles crest to the reverse amongst panels of scrolling foliage, maker's name ''E. Woods & Son Makers, Bow Street, London'' to the ricasso, the steel gothic hilt incorporating the regimental crest, wire bound fishskin grip, steel scabbard with twin ring suspensions. Blade with light patches of faint rust. Hilt and scabbard slightly rust pitted. Otherwise generally good overall.

Father Christmas with Lucy, Susan, Peter, and Mr. & Mrs. Beaver, 1998, chalk pastel, showing a snowy scene with Father Christmas in flowing robes with his arms round the shoulders of two girls, Lucy (on the left) holding a vial, and Susan holding a horn and bow, with Peter in front carrying a sword and shield, and two beavers, one wearing glasses, signed and dated lower right, 38 x 30.5cm (15 x 12ins), mounted, framed and glazed Original illustration for 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe' by C.S. Lewis; executed for the fiftieth anniversary edition published by HarperCollins in 2000. Christian Birmingham graduated in illustration from Exeter College of Art and Design in 1991. He quickly gained his first commission, to provide illustrations for an edition of 'The Night Before Christmas', of which more than two million copies have been sold. He has been shortlisted for the Kurt Maschler and Kate Greenaway illustration awards and he won both the Smarties Prize and Whitbread Children's Book of the Year Award. Other books illustrated by the artist include: 'A Christmas Carol'; 'Oliver Twist'; 'Sleeping Beauty'; and 'Wenceslas and The Snow Queen'. Christian Birmingham's use of chalk pastel gives a wonderful luminosity to the evocative festive images for which he is so well-known. (1)
