Late - Ptolemaic Period, 664-30 BC. A carnelian amulet of a youthful Pharaoh bust, wearing a variation of the Deshret Red Crown, uraeus cobra to the brow; suspension loop to the top. 1.45 grams, 17mm (3/4"). From an important Mayfair, London, collection; previously acquired from a Mayfair gallery before 1999. Very fine condition.
6th-7th century AD. A gold pendant made from a copy of an aureus of the emperor Postumus (260-269 AD); obverse with laureate bust of emperor with IMP C POSTVMVS PF AVG; to the reverse Victory in a two horse chariot, VICTORIA AVG; later ribbed suspension loop to the top. 5.63 grams, 25mm (1"). Ex C. Prothero; acquired circa 1978. Fine condition.

A George I gold half guinea folded twice into an s-shape for use as a love token gift, first laureate bust right, on the reverse crowned cruciform shields, sceptres in angles, 17 and 20 either side of upper crown. Spink p.401, no.3635.4.07 grams, 21mm (1"). Property of an Essex gentleman; acquired in 2013 from the Reubins collection. In the 18th and 19th centuries love tokens were handmade by suitors who gave them to their sweethearts. Poorer working class young men made their tokens from copper coins. The wealthy young man could use a silver or very rarely a gold coin. It was the custom for a gentleman to either piece and/or bend a coin and give it to his beloved as a token of his love and a sign of his intention to marry her. The coin was not to be spent, but instead, to be carried always by the woman as a demonstration of her fidelity, a constant reminder to her each time she opened her purse. Fine condition.

A James I gold quarter laurel (five shillings) pierced for use as a pendant, first bust, third coinage, with laureate bust left, rose mintmark, IACOBVS DG MAG BRIT FRA ET HIB REX legend; to the reverse a square topped shield of arms with rose mintmark after REGINA. 11th-12th century AD A gold cruciform pendant with gusset to the loop, nimbate bust and text to the discoid finial of each arm, central pelletted cross, 'IC XC' legend to the reverse. 10 grams, 41mm (1 3/4"). Very fine condition. Rare. Property of a London gentleman; acquired by his father in the 1970s; thence by descent.
3rd-7th century AD. A brown jasper stamp seal with dome-shaped body engraved with a series of circles; to the underside a male bust with cap of hair and wreath, star to the back of the head. 3rd-7th century AD. A group of five stone stamp seals consisting of: two carnelian one with a scorpion, the other with a reclining ibex; an agate seal engraved with a male bust; a brown jasper seal, with circles engraved to the domed top, the underside with the forepart of a lion; and a haematite seal showing a quatrefoil with ibex heads to the end of each arm. 19 grams total, 14-17mm (1/2"). Property of a North London lady; gifted from her father's collection; formerly with a Mayfair gallery, London, UK; previously acquired in the 1980s.[5] Fine to extremely fine condition.

A gold finger ring comprising a D-section hoop with plano-convex profile, scooped shoulders each surmounted by an integral sphere, rectangular plaque with flange rim, inset garnet cloison with intaglio profile bust. 15 grams, 27mm overall, 17.79mm internal diameter (approximate size British O ½, USA 7 ½, Europe 15.76, Japan 15) (1"). Property of a Mayfair gentleman; collected from 1966-2017. Fine condition, hoop cracked.
