Pierre-Eugène Dufour made the acquaintance of Paul Verlaine, Rimbaud's lover and adopted the pseudonym ""Paterne Berrichon"" He was a fervent admirer of Arthur Rimbaud. He started a correspondence with Isabelle Rimbaud, the younger sister of the poet, which concluded in 1897 by marriage. Berrichon was also closely acquainted with Paul Claudel, younger brother of the sculptress Camille Claudel and maintained a prolific correspondence with her from 1912 until 1919. He created paintings, for which his wife often modelled, and sculpted this bust for the Rimbaud monument in the poet's birthplace, Charleville-Mézières. This cast, a reduction of the Charleville bust is possibly a unique work by a seldom seen artist with fascinating associations with the sitter and the French artistic world of the time.
