Franta Belsky FRBS, Czech/British 1921-2000 - Pegasus and child; bronze with marble base, signed, numbered and stamped with foundry mark on bronze base 'F Belsky 2/1 Meridian Bronze London', H41 x W27.3 x D12.2 cm including marble base (ARR) Note: the artist fled to the UK during the Second World War. In the UK he had numerous public commissions, including portraits of Lord Louis Mountbatten for Horse Guards Parade and Andrew Bourne Cunningham for Trafalger Square. He also created a bust of Sir Winston Churchill for public display in Prague. He also created portraits of John Piper (now in the collection of Pallant House Gallery) and Queen Elizabeth II (National Portrait Gallery).
