MEDALS, 中國 - 紀念章, Qing Dynasty 清朝 / Germany 德國: Bronze Medal, for the suppression of the Boxer Rebellion 八國聯軍 1900-1901, Generalfeldmarschall Alfred, Graf von Waldersee (1832-1904), Allied Supreme Commander in China, Obv bust left, Rev mythical Chinese mounted warriors, 28.5mm, integral suspension loop. Very fine. Waldersee had served as Chief of the German Imperial General Staff from 1888 to 1891. His time in China is defined by his relationship with the Chinese courtesan Sai Jinhua.

CHINA . ANKUNFT I. DEUTSCHLAND, 32mm. Prooflike mint state, rare. Baron Clemens von Ketteler, the German minister Plenipotentiary to China was murdered by the Boxers in June 1900 and von Waldersee was appointed Generalfeldmarschall and sent to China as the Allied Supreme Commander. On his return from China he was appointed an Honorary Knight Grand Cross (Military) of the Order of the Bath.
