A PARIAN WARE BUST OF CAPTAIN MATTHEW WEBB (1848-1883) with medals on original fluted column with cartouche inscribed 'Swam across the English Channel August 24 1875', inscribed verso Published as the Act directs by J S Crapper of Hanley and C Marsh of Wolstanton, 6 December 1875. Note: Matthew Webb was the first man to swim the English Channel and died 24 July 1883 in a whirlpool at the foot of Niagara Falls, 25" high overall.
A late 19th century Meissen style figure group, modelled as a female sculptor, wearing a flower sprig decorated skirt, standing with chisel and mallet, modelling a bust on a veined marble plinth, underglazed blue crossed sword marks, 24.5cm high; also a smaller Meissen style figure of a flower seller with striped flower sprig skirt on a circular plinth with Greek key gilt frieze, blue underglazed crossed sword mark and impressed number mark, 18cm high (2)
A late 19th Century French gilt metal mantel clock, fitted eight day striking movement by Japy Frere, the case ornately decorated with Paris porcelain panels painted with female bust portrait, flowers and a cherub, surmounted by an urn finial with floral swags, the movement flanked by porcelain pillars and urns, raised on an ornate base with turned feet, 14 1/2in. x 18 1/2in. high.
A Victorian Grecian revival black slate mantle clock, 19th century, with architectural pediment surmounted by a bronzed Assyrian portrait bust above a 4.5" black dial with raised foliate gilt cast centre, roman numerals, eight day movement striking on a gong, lion's mask ring handles, canted plinth on fluted block feet, 17" high and a pair of associated portrait busts of Wellington and Napoleon on trophy cast plinths, damaged, 14" (3).
