**Please note this car was first registered in October 1936 although it is a 1937 model.** Just three owners from new, the first being 'Tarzan' stunt man, Gerald Gordon.  A rare survivor with a fascinating history. The SA was launched in 1936, initially in a closed-head, saloon body variant only produced in-house by Morris. By the end of 1936, however, the range was extended by the addition of a Tickford DHC by Salmons and by the Charlesworth Four-Door Tourer offered hereThe SA used an enlarged and tuned version of the six-cylinder 2,062cc Morris QPHG  from the Wolseley Super Six, now 2,288cc Only seven of this model were built and this one, #SA/0903, featured on the stand at the 1936 British International Motor Exhibition at Olympia, confirmed by a plaque on the dashboardIt was purchased from the stand by an adventurous individual called Gerald Gordon, who is understood to have been Tarzan's (Johnny Weismuller) stunt manHe immediately booked the car on the Queen Mary to the USA, driving it 19,000 miles around the States. His account of his eventful North American odyssey, complete with press cuttings and photographs, is in the history fileHe returned to the UK in 1939 and lived in Scotland where he and the MG became local celebrities, before going bust, with the car sold at auction to a museum in Cumbria from where it was purchased by our vendor c.22 years agoThe MG was fully restored with a new leather interior by the previous owner and benefits from a new navy blue hood and side screens during current ownershipSince then it has regularly been used enjoying car rallies and a few years ago won the SVW Trophy at Goodwood for the car the judges would most like to ownThis is a rare opportunity to own a fabulous survivor with a fascinating historySpecificationMake: MGModel: SAYear: 1936Chassis Number: SA/0903Registration Number: MG 5026Transmission: ManualEngine Number: QPHG 1168 Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 22347 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Light Blue LeatherClick here for more details, condition report and images

Lot 504

Watch and Listen on:Youtube.com/AuctionTeamBreker Start Price: EUR 4400 Zustand: (2/2)Musical Automaton Bust of an Ethiopian Lyre-Player by Gustave Vichy, c. 1890With papier-mâché head, open smiling mouth, brown glass eyes with articulated lids, original black mohair wig and a single crescent earring, on ebonized plinth with tune-sheet and metal plaque stamped: "G. Vichy, Paris, 5 Articles Français, Marque Deposé, Modele Deposé", the torso containing going-barrel motor and two-air cylinder movement, in gold silk costume with metallic embroidery, headdress and the original coin decoration, ht. 20 in. (51 cm) including headdress, with acorn-form stop / start and modern key, surface of face restored, good working and playing condition. - Note: Part of a series of Vichy automata reminiscent of the polychrome-painted bronze busts by French artists such as Émile Guillemin and Charles Cordier. The impression of an animated sculpture is heightened by the graceful modelling of the face and hands and the slender plinth base in imitation of its bronze counterparts. From the choice of subject, to the style of costume and the instrument she plays, the automaton was influenced by a 19th century fascination with 'exoticism' that reflected African cultures through a European lens. - The musician turns and gently bows her head to the left and right, blinks and appears to play the instrument with a lifting and plucking motion of the right arm. - This example has been sympathetically restored by David Secrett and Margaret Glover. - Literature: Q. David Bowers, Encyclopedia of Automatic Musical Instruments, p. 80, for an identical piece, one of several French automata in the catalog of retailer Gustav Uhlig of Halle, Saxony. Watch and Listen on:Youtube.com/AuctionTeamBreker Start Price: EUR 4400 Condition: (2/2)
