Boer War / WW1 18th Hussars Military Medal Officer’s Group of Seven Medals. A good long service gallantry group awarded to Lieutenant Bertram Bear, who had served in the ranks of the 18th Hussars, before being commissioned into the East Yorkshire Regiment and then transferring to the RAF. Comprising: Military Medal “4855 Sjt B Bear 18/ Hrs”, Queen’s South Africa Medal, five clasps “Cape Colony”, “Orange Free State”, “South Africa 1901”, “South Africa 1902”. “4855 L.Corp 18th Hussars”, 1914 Star, with clasp “4855 Sjt 8/HRS”, British War Medal, Victory Medal “2 Lieut.”, Defence Medal, Army Long Service & Good Conduct Medal (GVR Field Marshal bust), “4855 Sq.S.Mjr 18th Hrs”. GC mounted for display. The announcement of the Military Medal appeared in the London Gazette on the 11th October 1916. It is interesting to note that this listing was for a number of retrospective awards, many won during 1914, 1915. The cavalry awards are often for bravery during scouting and reconnaissance operations. Lt Bear’s serving during the Boer War is confirmed, he landed in France with his regiment on the 15th August 1914 and was discharged for a commission and was appointed a Second Lieutenant in the 1st Bn East Yorkshire Regiment. In December 1917 he was attached to the 10th Bn KOYLI and during March 1918 he was wounded and appears to have been invalided by to UK, where he later transferred to the Royal Air Force.
Royal Navy HMS Highflyer Persian Gulf group of Five Medals. Awarded to “270695 R.D. Dodd CPO HMS Cormorant”. Comprising: Naval General Service Medal one clasp “Persian Gulf 1909-1914” “ERA Cl2 HMS Highflyer”, 1914/15 Star, “ERA 1 RN”, British War Medal and Victory Medal, “ERA 1 RN”, Royal Navy Long Service & Good Conduct Medal (GVR Admiral bust), “CPO HMS Cormorant”. Medals remain as originally mounted GC.
Victorian Royal Navy Officers’ Mess plate. A scarce mid 19th century example decorated with a dramatic blue and white transfer border depicting a naval battle scene. A British frigate fires, while two Jack Tars wave flags vigorously standing upon a cannon. This design is repeated three times to the border and is interspersed with a head and shoulder bust of the young Queen Victoria within a wreath of laurels and oak leaves denoting Strength and Victory. To the centre a large crown with the word “Mess” above and “4” below. This is within a chain of interlocked links. Colours remain vivid and transfer clear. Circa 1850. Near VGC.
“Deutschland Erwacht” A 1933 dated published book with numerous stuck in photographs giving the impression of a one of work. The book shows the development of the NSDAP and the unity of the German Nation behind Adolf Hitler. Brown cloth cover with gold embossed title and SA Man’s bust set on swastika. Complete with dust wrapped. GC ... together with five Adolf Hitler propaganda postcards and three WW1 German postcards (AF).

A circa 1900 cased continental silver dessert set, comprising crescent form slice, serving spoon and twelve dessert spoons, all with engraved floral decoration and pierced handles with female bust design in relief, all contained in an embossed leather case with green velvet lined fitted interior.

Among the exhibits was catalogue no. 29 Frederick May, bronze [complete catalogue of work, no. 233] on loan from RTÉ. The exhibition catalogue for the show also made note of another example in the National Gallery of Ireland.The Sunday Independent, 5 December 1982, noted It`s the characters that steal the show, in particular Frederick May and Pope O`Mahony. "My father did them because he liked them." Murphy`s daughter Beibhinn told [the reporter, unnamed] "The others were the bread and butter." - a picture of the May bust in bronze accompanied the article. The bronze of May was made in an edition of 7. The present example is in plaster and came originally from the collection of the sitter. An example in this medium depicting the sculptor`s son, Colm 2, 1965 can be found in the collection of the Crawford Art Gallery, Cork."
Groat Edward III Pre-treaty Series G(g), with saltire on neck, open E (obv), pellets in T-A-S, closed E (rev) (Doubleday: - , Lawrence G(g) var, N.1199 var, S.1570) NVF with some score marks to the bust. Rare, an unlisted variety. Lawrence`s Class G(g) obverses with saltire on breast are only listed as having a closed E punch whereas this coin displays the open E of class G(h)

Groat Edward III Pre-treaty Series G, with annulet in tressure under king`s left shoulder, annulet in one qtr of rev. and pellets in T-A-S (Doubleday 502 var, Lawrence G(d)/G(e) or (f), N.1196/1197-8 var, S.1570) GF, with a weak bust, some light toning, rare and an unusual error. It would appear that this coin was supposed to have an annulet under the bust but instead it has been placed in the previous tressure.
