λ VICTORIA ATKINSON (BRITISH 20TH/21ST CENTURY) MERMAID BUST WEARING A GREEN NECKLACE Plaster Stamped with artist's fossil mark 26 x 26cm (10 x 10 in.) Victoria (Vicki) completed a sculpture degree at City and Guilds of London Art School in the late 1980s. Vicki has exhibited across the UK including group exhibitions at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and the Towner in Eastbourne. Atkinson rarely works with tools, hand modelling each piece. Through touch Atkinson feels her best work appears capturing the soul and essence of a figure whether they are based on a living person or a figure from her imagination. Atkinson has explored a series of guardians and protective figures of people who are no longer with us, as positive sculptures to enter our lives and look over us. Atkinson works mainly with clay and plaster feeling completely at ease with the medium. It is through these materials that she creates a real connection with the pieces she is working on, through touch and manipulation.
