Royal interest, a gift from Queen Victoria:- a Victorian gold memento mori stick pin depicting portrait bust of John Brown (1826-1883), the controversial Highland manservant and friend of the monarch, flanked by initials "JB" and below this the date of his death "1883," reverse with the royal and imperial cipher "FROM VRI", in a fitted red leather and gold-tooled case with crowned cipher of King George VI and retailed by D. Grant & Son of Edinburgh, 7.2 cm. long, wt. 6 gm. Lytton Strachey's 1921 biography of Queen Victoria states that following Brown's death in 1883 ".......a Brown memorial brooch, of gold, with the late gillie's head on one side and the royal monogram on the other, was designed by Her Majesty for presentation to her Highland servants and cottagers, to be worn by them on the anniversary of his death, with a mourning scarf and pins." In excellent condition.
A 19th century parian porcelain bust of C H Spurgeon, on square plinth, incised to the reverse published by the Rev. George Dummett, manufactured by Robinson & Leadbeater, Stoke on Trent, John Adams Acton fecit 1978, 32cm high, together with a further quantity of composite and pottery busts, Richard Duyatt commemorative mug, etc.
Late Victorian 'Classical Revival' hinged bangle by Child & Child, the oval agate with intaglio carved male bust wearing crescent, the bifurcated shoulders to an openwork bangle, maker's mark to clasp CONDITION REPORT Very good condition. Good clear maker's mark for Child & Child. No hallmarks and has not been tested but would appear to be rose gold, probably either 9ct or 15ct. Agate panel measures approximately 30mm x 25mm. Minute shallow blemish / chip to the edge of the stone at the 4 o'clock position, hinge and clasp work well with no signs of any repairs. Total gross weight approximately 19.9 grams. Bangle inside measurement is approx 61mm x 50mm
19th century or earlier carved marble head of a maiden, her hair tied up and head slightly sinister on grey marble socle base, 44cm high CONDITION REPORT Bust has repair infilling around neck and associated infilling to sides of neck, possibly running into her hairline. Repair to break of rear of socle base, elsewhere minor damage
