Joan Brennan [20th century] a terracotta bust of Professor Ronald Graveson [1911-1991]: signed and dated 1980, 42cm.* Ronald Graveson was a distinguished Barrister and Professor of Law. He became one of the leading figures in the world in the field of private international law and was a Professor of Law at King's College, London, an appointment he held for some twenty seven years.

As a young man, he was inspired to become an opera composer after seeing a performance of Verdi's Aida. He studied at the Milan Conservatory and in 1882 wrote a one-act opera, Le Villi, which caught the attention of Giulio Ricordi, who commissioned a second opera, Edgar (1889).The collection is hand-turned from a solid bar of a special ruby-red resin. The top of the cap features a sterling silver medal with Puccini's bust.
