Frank Falkner (1856-1930) formed an important collection of English Pottery and was the author of The Wood Family of Burslem, published in 1912. ++In very good condition with only a hairline crack around the lower junction on the handle to the body, a minor star crack in the base, hence in much better than usual for such jugs; no restoration

JOSEPH DURHAM (1814-1877) A white marble portrait bust of Mary Peel, so inscribed verso OBT 7 November 1876 and signed J. Durham ARA 1877 on a plain socle, 28" high. Note: Mary Peel was daughter of the Rev. John Wilde of Hamage, Shropshire. In 1838 she married Jonathan Peel of Accrington House, Accrington, Lancs and Knowlmere Manor, near Clitheroe, Lancs. Jonathan was a barrister in the Middle Temple.
An early Victorian sculpted white marble bust of a maiden, circa 1840, by R.J Wyatt, portrayed with her hair up and with loose ringlets at the sides, her decolletage loosely draped, on a waisted circular socle, the truncation to the reverse inscribed RJ WYATT ROME, 67cm high, 44cm wide. Note: Wyatt, like other British sculptors (such as John Gibson) worked in Rome during the first half of the 19th century although much of his work found its way back to Britain with the Grand Tourists who had commissioned it. He died in 1850, the year that Queen Victoria gave one of his works, ‘Glycera’ to Prince Albert as a Christmas present.
