1952. High Relief. ICCS Specimen-63. Brilliant, with a touch of toning; 1953, Small Date, S.F. ICCS Mint State-63. Medium multi-hued toning; 1978. Small Beads. ICCS Specimen-65. Brilliant; 1992. NWT Commem. 'Dies 90 degree'. ICCS Mint State-62. Brilliant. Ex. Lot #337, Michael Walsh, 1999 V.N.S. Oakridge auction; 1999. Large Bust. Proof-Like-64. Ex. Lot #253, Can. Coinoisseur. 2000 V.N.S. auction. Lot of five (5) coins.
10 Cents. 1938. ICCS graded Superb Gem Uncirculated-66. Toned to lavender-grey with perimeter highlights of blue, violet and gold, more pronounced on the reverse. The design is well-struck and sharp, with stately lustre. The bust is approaching cameo. Tied one of only 3 finest graded by ICCS.
25 Cents. 1890-H. ICCS graded Gem Uncirculated-65. Fully brilliant and untoned, with frosty clear surfaces and well-struck details. An abundance of lustre graces both obverse and reverse. Only a few light traces of contact in the vicinity of the date and below the bust separate this coin from its two finer rivals certified by ICCS, in MS-66 and MS-67 respectively.
25 Cents. 1903. ICCS graded Gem Uncirculated-65. Toned a medium grey overall, with obverse shades of chestnut and gunmetal blue around the perimeter and outlining the bust. The reverse is lighter, with amber and olive-green hues below the wreath. Fully struck and sharp throughout. Top 4 census, with only a single coin graded finer by ICCS in MS-66.
25 Cents. 1943. Cameo. ICCS graded Superb Gem Uncirculated-66. As Cameo designations are not detailed for mint-state coins in the ICCS report, one can only speculate that this piece may be unique among its peers. The Cameo sharply defines the bust amid blue-violet toning and pinwheel lustre. Tied one of only 6 finest graded by ICCS.
50 Cents. 1918. ICCS graded Gem Uncirculated-65. The combination of the effusive lustre and superlative toning of this coin creates an eye appeal that is nothing short of mesmerizing. Hues of sea-green, honeyed gold and violet drape the entirety of the obverse, while on the opposite the same palette forms a halo around the wreath, leaving the centre of the coin to blaze frosty silver. Near perfect pinwheel lustre graces the sharply struck obverse bust, while on the reverse it is more nebulous, although no less arresting. Powerful magnification will reveal only minor contacts that all but disappear to the unaided eye. This stunning coin resides in the top 10 pieces of the ICCS census, with only a single coin finer in MS-66.
50 Cents. 1932. ICCS graded Gem Uncirculated-65. Were it not for the unfortunate fate of the 1921 mintage of 50 cents, the 1932 would hold the honour of being the scarcest of all George V half dollars, having a diminutive mintage of only 19,213 pieces. As a runner up, however, it is still a coin of remarkable scarcity, especially in uncirculated grades, let alone as a gem example such as the one offered here. The prominent and balanced lustre takes centre stage, radiating through the iridescent pastel toning of lilac-grey, orange-gold and pale blue. Fully struck, with excellent detail throughout the obverse bust and reverse wreath. A stunning original Gem example of the official lowest-mintage George V half dollar, one of only two coins graded as such by ICCS. A rare opportunity for the astute collector.
1 Dollar. 1948. ICCS graded Superb Gem Uncirculated-66. Upon the arrival of the master tools for the new, redesigned obverse, minting of the 1947 Maple Leaf coins was ceased and regular strikings began. The brief production run of dollars that followed yielded a scant 18,780 pieces, which in time would prove to be the official lowest mintage for the denomination. Desired by all but obtained by few, the 1948 silver dollar remains a cornerstone of every serious collection of Canadian coins, and none more so than this ultimate example, the solo finest mint-state example in the ICCS census. A singularly immaculate and alluring coin; the pristine fields are unmistakably mirrored, but careful observation will also reveal a trace of light cartwheel lustre on the obverse. A touch of mint frost on the hair lends the bust a cameo appearance, while a few wisps of straw-gold toning are all but indistinguishable from the otherwise brilliant surfaces. The ICCS census lists only a single coin graded as MS-66, while PCGS has graded only two examples in an equivalent grade. Spirited bidding is to be expected on this colossal rarity.
1 Dollar. 1967. Upset Dies. ICCS graded Very Choice Uncirculated-64. With a mere eight examples certified, this variety of the iconic 1967 dollar is arguably among the rarest of all Canadian silver dollars. Perfectly struck with an exact 180 degree die alignment, this coin boasts mirrored fields and slight Cameo frosting on the bust. Of the scant handful of examples graded by ICCS, only one is finer in MS-65.

Born in 1922 in Philadelphia, Walter has had a life-long passion for collecting. A long-time resident in London, he has now retired to New York and decided that the time has come to pass on the antiquities and coins he has collected over his lifetime. Walter acquired coins and artefacts that interested him, so his collection, although containing many lovely examples, also contains many affordable specimens. Much of the material has been unavailable to the market for 30 to 50 years. Walter hopes that the items he collected will now find new homes with the next generation of collectors.
