She was a noted early feminist and suffragette and was the mother of Alix Strachey the psychoanalyst who translated the works of Sigmund Freud into English. Their home with the latter`s husband James Strachey was Lord`s Wood in Buckinghamshire " an occasional if unusually austere retreat of the Bloomsbury Group. .
