A pair of framed Berlin portrait plaques late 19th century after Balthasar Denner, depicting bust portraits of an elderly couple, the lady signed lower right H. Stadler/ Cop..n B.Denner, the gentleman signed lower right H. Stallman, each in an elaborate gilt frame impressed K.P.M. and sceptre mark and impressed and incised letters and numerals, incised shield marks 54cm., 21.25;in. by 46cm., 18in. overall; the plaques 31.5cm., 12.375;in. by 38.7cm., 15.25;in. (2) Hans Stadler is recorded as a porcelain painter in Vienna during the second half of the 1880s; he participated in exhibitions in 1885 and 1888, when he is reported to have exhibited "portraits on porcelain, genre scenes on porcelain dishes, plates decorated and painted in the old genre" (quoted by W. Neuwirth, Porzellanmaler-Lexicon 1840-1914, vol.II, p.275).
A group of ten fob seals, English, late 18th to late 19th century gold or gold-cased, including a three-colour gold example chased with roses, the amethyst matrix engraved with initials; a simple tassel-shaped seal with chalcedony matrix engraved with the arms of William, 2nd Baron Bagot; a ringed pair of seals with carnelian matrices, one engraved with a profile bust of William Pitt the Younger, the other with the initials and crest of Sir Charles Elphinstone Adam of Blair Adam; a large tassel-shaped example with carnelian matrix engraved with the arms probably of Perceval; and five others, variously engraved with the head of a Roman emperor, crests and coats of arms including those of Wilmot and Waller the tallest 5cm, 2in The seal of William, 2nd Baron Bagot (1773-1856), can be dated between 1799 when he married the Hon. Emily Fitzroy, 4th daughter of Lord Southampton, and her death the following year.
Georges-Edwin Ewing, 19th century marble bust of a bearded gentleman. The subject is said to be a Mr. Wotherspoon, refuted to be the founder of Brown & Poulson Cornstarch Manufacturers of Paisley. Stamped on the back GE Ewing Fecit and Glasgow, 1854. G.E. Ewing was born in Birmingham in 1828 and died in New York in 1884, 32" high
Earl St Vincent’s Reward medal 1800, in silver, diameter 47mm. Obverse bust of St. Vincent left, in naval uniform with legend “Earl St Vincent’s Testimony of Approbation 1800”, reverse: sailor and marine shaking hands within oak wreath with Union flag background, and legend “Loyal and True”. Edge engraved “Samuel*Blight”. Good Very Fine, a little dark staining to obverse, cleaned. Plate 1. Note:These awards were given to crew members of Victory and Ville de Paris who did not take part in the Mutiny in the Mediterranean.
