Very complete for the issue.Ex Bernard Poindessault (1935-2014) legacy; ticket included. The worship of Venus Erycina was derived from Eryx in Sicily where the goddess had a famous temple, which was said to have been built by the hero Eryx, a son of Aphrodite and King Butes, and of which a view is shown here. This moneyer was the brother of M. Considius Nonianus who was praetor in c. 52 BC, and who as civil war was breaking out in 49, the senate assigned as propraetor to succeed Julius Caesar in the province of Cisalpine Gaul. Both brothers supported Pompey in the civil war, and one or other may have been responsible for the repair or restoration of the temple of Venus Erycina at the command of the Senate."
