Autograph – art and artists – Samuel Joseph Sculptor good group of four autograph letters signed 1827/8 to Mrs George Selby discussing various matters and discussing his works : ‘...the cause of my being not into the country was to do a Bust of the Duke of Argyle: this happened to give entire satisfaction and led to my getting two or three other commissions – one was a bust of Lady Ellinor Campbell the daughter of Lord Whemyss. My time at the Castle passed very delightfully...’ Joseph is best known for his statue of William Wilberforce.

Turnerelli Fecit", 43.5 cm high (Provenance: by family repute a gift from George IV to The First Lord Melville, Henry Dundas, First Viscount Melville) (Peter Turnerelli-Irish sculptor of Italian origin, studied under Peter Francis Chenu. From 1797 to 1800 he taught modelling to the daughters of George III and was subsequently Sculptor-in-Ordinary to the Royal Family. ‘Keate - Cut by Bryan the Pastrycook of Eton. 1845’, a fruitwood bust of Dr John Keate (1773-1852), he wears a Napoleonic tricorn hat, the robes of a Doctor of Divinity and sports vigorous sideburns, 8cm (3in) high Dr Keate was headmaster of Eton from 1809-34. He introduced discipline to the college with the use of the birch but was well respected for his kind heart. Sadly, Bryan the pastry cook, is more obscure
A William and Mary pewter lidded porringer by Samuel Lawrence, the ears with dolphin supporters, one missing its tip, touch to reverse (MPM 2863a), the interior with a cast relief medallion with a bust of William III with a crown and orb, the lid with cast relief decoration with busts of William and Mary, with a crown above flanked by angels, the centre with a circle framing HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE, to WM monograms and royal arms, the whole with three applied knops of a crown with cherub supporters, one replaced, c.1689 - 1694, 4in (10cm) h, 10.5in (26.5cm) wide overall.
