G. PINESCHI (ITALIAN), ALABASTER BUST OF LADY, C. 1925, H 18", 'ORIENTAL GIRL'In pink and cream colored alabaster, a carved bust of a young woman in art deco fashion. Measuring overall H.17 1/2", base measures H.3 1/2". Titled on base 'Oriental Girl', and signed at back of the left shoulder.Light scuffing to one shoulder but otherwise in good condition. BRONZE BUST - PERCY BRYANT BAKER (1881-1970) a bronze bust of a Girl, Audrey, the bust mounted on an oak plinth. Signed on the side, To Edwin Smith from his friend P Bryant Baker, 1912. 12 1/4ins (31cms) high *Percy Bryant Baker was a British born American Sculptor. He made a number of busts of famous Americans (including 5 Presidents), and in 1910 he was commissioned by Queen Alexandra to create a bust of King Edward VII.
A late 19th century French silver vaccination medal depicting a bust of Edward Jenner and inscribed "Rappel de Medaille d'Or Mme Dumont-Sergent Sage Femme a le Cateau 1879", diameter 4cm, a bronze Napoleonic vaccination medal dated 1804, diameter 4cm, and a small French silver vaccination medal depicting a cow to the obverse and dated to the reverse 1814, diameter 3.2cm, also three WHO commemorative smallpox eradication badges (6). Provenance: The Derrick Baxby Collection.
A c.1900 carved alabaster bust of a girl wearing a hat with lace brim, on cylindrical base with spreading circular foot, unmarked, height 55cm. CONDITION REPORT: Traces of wear and small nibbles to some of the raised parts, predominantly to the hat and its front part. An area of approx 3.5cm of losses along the edge of the base and a few smaller areas. Hairline crack to the base, probably to the inclusion where the alabaster is. Some dirt and minor wear to the surface. Base stable. A few other inclusions.
A group of costume jewellery comprising a 9ct yellow gold and amethyst ring, size L/M, a 9ct yellow gold mounted oval cameo brooch/pendant depicting the bust of a young woman, 4 x 3cm, a sterling silver multi strand necklace, a further brick link example, a pearl bead necklace, also three marcasite set brooches and a similar ring.
Mauritius : 1891 Postal Stationery envelope surcharged 50c. on 1878 8c. Pale grey (H & G milky blue) hexagonal frame type around Queen's bust, P.O control mark in red 'GENERAL POST OFFICE MAURITIUS' in crowned double circle with manuscript control signature 'L.M.C.P.' of Louis Martin Colonial Postmaster, Higgins and Gage B (Envelopes) 14, used envelope, cancelled by the barred numeral 'B32', with red oval 'Registered / Mauritius No. 22 AU 1891' alongside and large 'R' in black, addressed to Marseille, France with appropriate arrival datesatmp of Marseille of September 20 (?) on reverse, Sismondo 2002 colour photo-certificate states in good condition and genuine in all respects. H&G state about 50 envelopes were prepared, Sismondo states 'only 36'. Extremely rare in used condition Mauritius specialist piece (image available) [US8]
