A 19th century mahogany cased bracket clock The white painted dial signed Pritchard, Birmingham, with Roman numerals and four pillar bell striking fusee movement, the bracket with carved bust. The clock 45 cm high. CONDITION REPORTS: Generally in good condition, expected wear, case with some shrinkage cracks, not guaranteed in working order.
Samuel (Sam) Tonkiss (British, 1909-1992) - 'A Bronze Head of L S Lowry' Signed, no.25/36, and bearing a foundry stamp, the plinth base bearing applied plaque inscribed 'L.S. LOWRY RBA ARA MA LLD 1975', total height approx. 33cm. With this lot comes a black and white photograph inscribed to mount 'Lowry, George & Sam', also bears printed label verso, inscribed 'Portrait bronze bust of L S Lowry. George Aird (middle) with L S Lowry (left) and Sam Tonkiss (right) admiring the bronze bust of L S Lowry. Sam Tonkiss is the sculptor, George Aird is an art dealer who commissioned the bust and the sitter L S Lowry is an artist. Photography by Sefton Samuels. Henry VIII silver halfpenny of Canterbury, TC beside bust, Archbishop Cranmer, mm. Catherine Wheel / -, Spink 2358, with old ticket, full and round, dark uneven tone but well struck up and clear, GF/NVF, with an Edward I silver penny of Canterbury, slightly rough surfaces, well centred VF [2]
Isaac I Comnenus, 1st.September 1057 - 25th. December 1059, Byzantine two-thirds silver miliaresion, Constantinople Mint, weight 1.63g, diameter 23.03, obverse:- Christ's bust facing, with nimbus cruciger, wearing pallium and colobium, right hand raised giving benediction, book of Gospels in left hand, legend IC - XC, reverse:- Greek legend in six lines, KE RO[HO] / IC[AAKIW] / [OPOOAOIW] / [AECI IOT]H / [TW] KOMNH / NW, double lined border each side, Sear 1846, there is thought to be only three other specimens of this issue known, these all being in museums and from different dies to the present piece, the coin in the Dumbarton Oakes Collection was sold in 1948 and the only previous sale we can trace was in 1886, present piece found with a metal detector on 1st. January 2015 in Mid-Suffolk, sold with all paperwork and research by Dr.Vezin, reverse has thin black deposit across legend, also very light scuffs, excessively rare and possibly the only specimen of this Byzantine Emperor in silver available to the private collector, VF/NF
