A French Bronze Ormolu Striking Mantel Clock, circa 1830, case is depicting a figure of a lady with her arms raised looking towards a bust of a centurion, base with applied mounts, 3-inch Roman numeral dial, twin barrel movement with outside countwheel striking on a bell, silk suspension, 38cm high see illustration 14.10.19 Ormolu surfaces are discoloured, case is slightly dirty in parts, movement is striking and in going order, with pendulum.

Note: Norman Frederick Pierce born London 1915, died 1995. Member of the The Society of Portrait Sculptors and a winner of the Society silver medal. Studied Reading University Fine Art department with Alan Seaby, then at the Royal College of Art 1935-8 under Richard Garbe. Taught at Colchester School of Art and Winchester School of Art, then in adult education in Winchester where he lived. Fellow of the RBS and showed at the Royal Acadamy, in the Mall Galleries and at Paris Salon for Madam Tussauds and has notable works across the country and abroad including; bust of William Walker in Winchester Cathedral refectory and bronze statue of Sir Seretse Khama in Botswana. With Latin inscription to the rim. Published by S.Parker London. 60mm in associated Watherston & Brogden box. Other medals with the same reverse were published by Parker as part of a 'Great Men' series, others recorded include James Watt, George Canning and John Flaxman.

(Eimer 1631 BHM 2969) William Dickson Lang (1878 - 1966) was keeper of the Department of Geology at the British Museum from 1928 -1938. On retirement he moved to Charmouth, In 1940, with a colleague, he published the 'Index of palaeozoic coral genera', he also published a number of articles on Mary Anning.
