A pair of early 20th century watercolours, bust length portraits of an elderly lady and gentleman, she in red dress and gold jewellery, he in grey jacket and tie, both signed bottom right G W R Holden, one with French label verso "Le Grande-Leclerc, Calais", 63 x 52 cm overall approx in ornate mounts with applied floral detail to the corners, also in ornate swept and pierced gilt frames,
Samuel Parker jnr (active 1819-1848) a small bronze library bust of King William IV 1831. Sam Parker 'bronzist' of Argyll Street supplied bronze lamps to George IV and made medals for the King. This small published bronze of William IV was sold at various outlets for a guinea. A nice example, fully inscribed verso.
Preston Powers (American, 1843-1931), "Bust of a Gentleman, possibly John Greenleaf Whittier (1807-1892)", 1876, marble, signed, dated, and numbered "19" on rear truncation, 30 1/8, width 20 1/2 in., depth 13 1/2 in. Note: According to the Smithsonian Institution Research Information System, Powers sculpted a marble bust of the famed American poet and abolitionist John Greenleaf Whittier in 1874. The bust, now conserved in the Boston Public Library, was displayed at the Boston Museum of Art in 1875 and a copy was made for the Haverhill Public Library (MA) in 1881. In addition to these recognized works, newspaper articles indicate that there was another Whittier marble bust in Powers` studio in Florence, Italy, that was completed in late 1876/early 1877.
