Four Staffordshire figures of John Wesley, 2nd half 19th century, one in a pulpit above a clock dial, three standing and holding a prayer book, a small Staffordshire bust of Wesley, raised on a sponged socle, a modern stoneware bust, a Routh Pottery commemorative plate from 1969, applied with a profile of Susannah Wesley, and a limited edition Leeds Pottery loving cup printed with a portrait of Mary Bosanquet and with a John Kay print of Wesley walking in Edinburgh (no. 81 of 250), 28cm max. A 19th century gilt metal and alabaster mantle clockThe white enamelled dial with Roman numerals and twin winding apertures, surmounted with the bust of a bearded crowned man, the reverse stamped PH Mourey. 42.5 cm high. CONDITION REPORTS: Some gilt wear/loss, some chipping to alabaster, cracks and chips to dial, back door lacking, all clocks not guaranteed in working order.

A pair of teardrop glass pendants comprising: one amber-coloured with busts of an imperial family within a raised border, folded loop above; one blue with facing female bust and legend 'NIKH' (Nike"). 2.24 grams, 16-23mm (3/4 - 1"). A bronze oval fitting, possibly a military phalera with high relief bust of Medusa to the centre with long flowing hair, wings to the top of the head and snake heads below; snake tails tied under chin; pierced at four on the rim for attachment. 345 grams, 92mm (3 1/2"). 14th-16th century AD. A bronze fitting from a shrine or vessel depicting a female bust, the hair held in crispines at the sides; socket to the rear. Cf. Hammond, B. A mixed group of carved alabaster items comprising: two human heads, each with a crested cap, ring-and-dot eyes; a human bust with keeled face, drilled to the shoulders; a human torso fragment with right arm resting on the knee, incised collar to the upper chest, remains of drilled socket. 1.6 kg total, 4.5-12cm (1 3/4 - 4 3/4"). From an important private London collection; formed in the 1970s and 1980s.[4] Fair condition.
3rd-6th century AD. A carved plano-convex agate seal with a richly adorned facing male bust and Pahlavi script text above, small part chipped. Cf. Gyselen, R. Acta Iranica. 2nd century AD. An oolitic limestone, slightly larger than life, bust of the Emperor Caracalla, head turned to the left, showing curly hair, beard and with an intense gaze with squared off base; of provincial workmanship. See Sear, David, Roman Coins, volume II, Spink 2002, pp.502-545 for many coin portrait examples.30.3 kg, 55cm tall (20cm chin to brow) (21 3/4"). Property of a London lady; by inheritance; formerly acquired by her father in Europe in the 1940s. The features of the bust bear a striking resemblance to to the portraits seen on the coinage of Caracalla (198-217 AD); the limestone possibly being quarried in the mountainous regions of the Balkans. Named Lucius(?) Septimus Bassianus, Caracalla (born 4 April 188 at Lugdunum) was eldest son of Emperor Septimius Severus of the Severan dynasty; Caracalla, with his family, including his brother Geta, arrived in Britain in 208 AD where they campaigned until the death of Septimius in 211 AD. After this, the brothers fell into dispute until Geta was murdered while attending a meeting of reconciliation with his brother in December the same year; Caracalla then slaughtered thousands of 'supporters' of Geta before campaigning in Germany; eventually being assassinated in 217 AD. Very fine condition.
2nd-1st century BC. A pair of silver amulets with repousse decoration, consisting of: a lunate with five raised bosses with dot decoration to the base, hole to the top for suspension ring, a disc suspended from the lunate with raised boss to the centre with dot border; a rectangular amulet with chevron border, to the centre a human bust with headdress and collar necklace, suspension ring to the top. 12 grams total, 49-64mm (2 - 2 1/2"). From a home counties collection; formed 1970-1980.[2] Fine condition.
2nd-4th century AD. A gold finger ring with D-section hoop, triangular shoulders, square plaque with stepped cell, beaded wire collar, inset garnet cabochon with intaglio profile bust. Cf. Rev: S C in fields with Nero on horseback prancing right holding couched spear accompanied by second horseman holding vexillum; DECVRSIO in exergue. 88-89 AD. Philippopolis mint. Obv: IMP CAES DOMIT AVG GERM COS XIIII CENS PERP P legend with laureat bust right. Rev: ?????????????? legend with Tyche standing facing holding grain ears with river god Hebrus reclining right leaning on overturned urn and holding branch. See Mouchmov, Philippopolis 3; Varbanov 620; RPC II 351.23.46 grams. With an image of another example from the same dies. Good very fine. Scarce.
