Comprising: 1914/15 Star “COL-SGT RMLI”, British War Medal, Victory Medal “CR SGT RMLI”, Royal Navy Long Service & Good Conduct Medal (GVR Admiral bust) “ COL SERGT RMLI”, Meritorious Service Medal (GVR) “PO/9900 CL SGT E.F. HOBBS RMLI “CORFU” SERVICES DURING WAR. French Medal Militaire. Quartermaster Sergeant Ernest Frederick Hobbs MSM was born in 1885 and joined the RMLI on the 30th June 1899, serving as a Bugler, after a time with the Portsmouth Division he was posted to HMS Excellent in April 1901. At the outbreak of the Great War with the rank of Sergeant he was serving at HMS Egmont the Depot ship at Malta, this would be his official posting throughout the war. However he was attached to the British Liaison Officer for the French Naval Commander in Chief and was therefore awarded the French Medaille Militaire for his services (Confirmed). He was also part of the Royal Marine Guard at Corfu and for this service was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal. Returning to the UK with the rank of Barrack Quartermaster Sergeant he retired in August 1923 and returned to Malta where he died in 1934.

A large Georgian stirrup-style seal, c.1800, attached to one end with a partially faceted citrine, intaglio engraved with a cameo bust, together with a smaller gold seal, c.1810, with chalcedony matrix, intaglio engraved with a crest, a bull rampant emerging from a coronet, possibly that of a marquess.
