Rx: VICTOBA (sic) - DD NN AVGG (sic) Victory advancing left holding wreath and palm, LVG in exergue. Imitating RIC 212 and Bastien 259, with changes. Imitations of Lugdunese siliquae of Julian II appear to be rare: Bastien publishes only two specimens, pl. XXXII, I 134 and Suppl II, pl. XLI, I 139, both quite different from ours. Ex Philip T. Ashton Collection. Purchased from Simmons, London, June 2001. This imitation is in competent style, but makes several curious errors in the legends. In the obverse legend, the normal PP is replaced by PRP, with an extra R. In the reverse legend, a B replaces the expected RI at the end of VICTORIA, and the normal singular AVG is replaced by the plural AVGG. Moreover the three Ds in the legend, one on the obverse and two on the reverse, are rendered as reversed Cs, without the required vertical stroke to close them. Mint State.
