A group of stamp seals consisting of: three carnelian seals, one engraved with a goat with head turned back, one engraved with a spider, one with a running horse with head turned back; a banded agate seal engraved with the bust of a male youth with hair swept back; a rock crystal seal engraved with a standing lion with head turned back and mouth open. 20 grams, 15-20mm (1/2-3/4"). From an important London collection, acquired in the 1990s. [5, No Reserve] Fine condition.
7th century AD. A set of four sheet-gold monofacial repoussé bracteates, each with the facing bust of a Byzantine Holy Emperor, probably Constantine IV, Pogonatus (Senior Augustus 15th July 668-10th July 685 AD), in military attire holding spear over his right shoulder; two lateral stitching holes for attachment; edge folded to the reverse. 3.08 grams total, 19-20mm (3/4"). Property of an Essex gentleman; acquired on the London art market in the 1960s. [4, No Reserve] Fine condition.
Gupta Period, 320-550 AD. A sandstone architectural panel carved with three niches separated by columns with floral tops; central panel in the form of a stupa with small opening to the base; right hand panel with bust of smiling male with necklace and earrings; left hand panel with half a rosette; mounted on a custom-made stand. 3.69 kg, 28.5cm (11 1/4"). Acquired on the London art market prior to 1980. Fine condition.
