James Heffernan was born in Londonderry and came to London in his early 20`s and soon entered Sir Francis Legatt Chantrey`s studio, where he remained until Chantrery`s death in 1841. He exhibited at the RA between 1816-1830 and in 1825 he showed a bust of Miss E.W.Hill.

Bust of Peasant Girl by Senior Master Zeng Shandong" porcelain 330mm. high the headscarf formed from real lace dipped in glaze modelled onto the figure then burnt away in firing leaving the extremely fragile glaze residue unmarked [Jingdezhen] " 1960. ***Certified by Zeng Shandong as being made by him in Jingdezhen in 1960. A fine example of the aesthetics of New China before the Cultural Revolution. The subtly self-conscious oriental overtones suggest it was probably made for the overseas market.
