A late Victorian mahogany open armchair in the George II styleWith a shaped back and outcurved arms each carved with a feathered eagle's bust terminal, on acanthus clasped and twin opposing scrolled eagle bust carved front legs, terminating in claw and ball feet, with splayed rear legs, stamped: '7668', approximately: 74cm wide x 63cm deep x 97cm high, (29in wide x 24 1/2in deep x 38in high)Footnotes:The present lot, which is late 19th century in date, appears to have been directly inspired by a George II mahogany open armchair that previously formed part of the renowned Frederick Parker Collection of chairs. This 18th century example, dated circa 1745, is illustrated in The Frederick Parker Collection, A Selection of Chairs, edited by C.C. Stevens, 2003, London, FP 112, pp.'s 22-23. The carving to the arms and legs is very similar, with closely related out-scrolled and eagle bust carved arms.
