A 1920's silver handled ostrich feather fan The handle in the form of the bust of a maiden holding a fan in crossed arms, hallmarked Birmingham 1921 with makers mark for Cornelius Desormeaux Saunders & James Francis Hollings Shepherd, with a plume of vivid yellow ostrich feathers and with wrist strap, approximately 34cm long.(illustrated)
A silver mounted goblet, the bowl, lid and base formed of oak panels, one of which bears a silver plaque bearing the crest of the Boswell family (perhaps a later addition). The wide rims decorated with oak leaves and acorns, the stem realistically modelled as an oak tree, the lid surmounted by a silver bust of Charles II. Roman numerals I-XII engraved anti-clockwise around the base. Note: Provenance available on request. Condition Report: The story goes , a goblet was made by Charles II from silver mounted oak to give to a supporter who helped to hide him from Cromwell's forces. The current owners say the cup was given to their ancestor privateer Hawkins, but the original was then lost in the 19th Century and a Victorian replica was made. The finial does sit awkwardly and the quality of the silverwork is not brilliant but the overall condition is good. A few dents, worn decoration, three tiny cracks to the edge of the rims. Modern green felt has been inserted into the base.
