The only other moneyer known at Oxford to strike in type IV is Æglnoth (recorded from a single coin, EMC 2007.0213) who also struck in type I; two coins by Ælgric are known for type III and then no other coins of Oxford mint until Type IX. Good fine; flan chipped and cracked. Extremely rare; the moneyer not previously recorded and only one other coin for Oxford in this type.

Although surviving medieval documents referring to the production of dies for English round halfpennies and round farthings in the reign of Henry III (intended to replace the traditional means of providing fractions by shearing pennies into halves and quarters) have been known of since the 18th century (see Ruding, Rev. Rogers, Annals of the Coinage of Great Britain, 3rd edition, London, 1840, volume I, p.182 and Madox, Thomas, History and Antiquities of the Exchequer, 2nd edition, London, 1769, volume II, p.87), it was only as recently as 1991 that the first coin example (a farthing) was discovered by metal detector; since then examples for all four of the London moneyers (Abel, Elis, Rauf and Terri) working in the early class 7 short cross period have been found although only a very few specimens are known in all; apart from size and weight, the very obvious visual difference between the pennies and the fractions is the initial mark at the start of the reverse legend with this being a cross for the pennies and a crescent-and-pellet for the fractions. 1st century AD. A bronze bowl- or vessel-mount formed as a female bust with peplos dress gathered at the shoulders, hairstyle of tresses piled above the head with loop to the reverse. See Rolland, H. His interest in antiquity was piqued when, during the 1970s, he spent some time working in Israel and had the opportunity to visit Roman-period locations including Lake Galilee and Masada, the site of the famous Judaean revolt and subsequent massacre. He made his first purchases at that time and was soon building an enviable collection of artefacts. While at university, he was able to study human remains at first hand in conjunction with archaeological research and from there his passion for the human aspects of historical research was kindled. A bi-colour silk faille gown, late 1870s, the long jacket-like bodice with ecru wool piping and pleated trims, with fob pocket to the waist and decorative pockets to the hips; the skirt caught in a pleated train to the rear, adorned with buttons, bow and pleated wool bands, bust 84cm, 36in, waist 61cm, 24in (2) CONDITION REPORT: Good condition, very fresh in appearance. Slight perspiration stains at underarms, no obvious signs of alteration. Scattering of small moth holes to front ecru wool pleating and light brown stain (minor). Scattering of small moth holes to ecru wool pleating to right side of skirt, also minor. Light rubbing to ecru wool piping at rear of collar, minor. Approx 2 faint marks to bodice. Scattering of damp marks to interior wool lining of bodice.
A fine and rare Liberty Aesthetic Movement copper satin tea gown, circa 1897, the waist stay stamped in gold 'Liberty & Co Ltd Artistic and Historic Costume Studio', in pseudo medieval style, the satin over-robe with pleated Watteau back and trained skirt, richly embroidered shaped collar, front robings, V-shaped waist belt, detached over-sleeves and closure buttons, worked in copper toned silk cord, studded with facetted amber coloured beads, with tightly gathered ivory chiffon front insert and flounced, gathered sleeves with fitted, beaded chemical lace lower sleeves, yoke and separate detachable choker collar; the inner dress of coral silk with boning at the back bodice only and gathered elasticated tapes over the breasts for comfort, bust approx 81cm, 32inIn 1884 Liberty's opened a dress department under the guidance of the designer E. W. Godwin. He was a member of the Aesthetic Movement, which favoured 'artistic' dress for women based on classical, medieval, Pre-Raphaelite and Renaissance clothing. CONDITION REPORT: Satin is generally good. Chiffon front insert in the bodice area is slightly soiled in appearance with a scattering of small holes and 4cm split in chiffon at waist closure area, chiffon is very soiled at hem with numerous splits. However there are large tears to the front right side above the hem. These are not apparent when the dress is mounted as they are concealed by the satin over-robe and the tight gathers of the chiffon. There is a darned repair to the ground fabric at the far left waist where the V shaped embroidered waist belt attaches. Small area of wear to edge of left robing/lapel at chest level and at right hem edge of robing. Dress is generally good condition. Inner silk bodice - the ivory ribbon edged at hook and eye closure and covered to elasticated chest bands have perished (minor). Silk inner bodice is generally clean and good. A piece of fabric has been added to inside waist area lining beneath the area where the exterior waist belt is fixed for extra strength (minor). Skirt hem edge is soiled, especially at rear train but the main body of the satin dress is good and fresh in appearance. Scuff and 2 small holes to front right skirt near hem. Satin underarms are clean and good. Chemical lace sleeves are good, chiffon over-sleeves with faint stains and holes. Chiffon backing to chemical lace collar has worn at edges. Overview: satin areas are good, chiffon front insert is very stained and fragile in hem area. Lace choker is good condition, chiffon lining is worn at closure ends. Detached over sleeves - seem complete beading and embroidery is good.
A taupe taffeta gown with day and evening bodices, circa 1875, edged with fringing, with overskirt and optional day and evening bodices, bust 97cm, 38in, waist 66cm, 26in (4) CONDITION REPORT: Good condition. Soiling to interior of hem at skirt from a muddy walk. Day bodice lacking buttons. Interior cotton waist ties of evening bodice are broken. Appears unaltered.
