A KASHMIR TERRACOTTA BUST OF A CROWNED BODHISATTVA C.8TH CENTURY The stylised face with an aquiline nose and large almond-shaped eyes beneath incised arched eyebrows, wearing a tall elaborate crown formed as three medallions enclosing flowerheads and foliage, his torso adorned with beaded jewellery, all supported on a modern stand, 54cm. Provenance: formerly a UK private collection, purchased in Dubai; and then a Belgian private collection, purchased from Shirley Day, New York, on 24th June 2005. A copy of the invoice is available. LA BAN (FL.1930S-40S) KACHIN GIRL AND WA MAN Two Burmese paintings, ink and colour on paper, signed, together with a watercolour of the bust of a Shan man by Saya Saung (1898-1952), signed, all framed and glazed, 24cm x 16cm max. (3) Provenance: from the collection of Robert Thornhill (d.2018). Robert Thornhill was a connoisseur and teacher of Fine Art. He developed a keen interest in Burmese art, acquiring considerable knowledge of Burmese artists, their styles and influences, sharing with others his knowledge of this milieu. His home in Bangkok exhibited, with delight, the many acquisitions he collected over several years on visits to Yangon's art dealers in the early 2000s.
Rococo style painted soft metal miniature writing desk set, circa 1900, all painted in cream with pink flower pattern and including ornate Mantel clock bust to top, 2 ¼” (6cm) high, inkwell, five branch candelabra, blotter, two letter openers on tray and a thermometer with grape vine decorated frame, condition: normal wear one letter opener broken, (6 items).
