* Battle of Saint Cast. French bronze medal commemorating the Battle of Saint Cast in 1758, 18th century, the obverse with a bust of King Louis XV facing right, with the legend 'LUDOVICO XV. OPTIMO PRINCIPI. COMITIA ARMORICA' (The commune of Brittany to Louis XV, the best of princes), the reverse showing the genius of Brittany with sword in her hand and shield by her feet, a palm tree devides her from Mars hanging shields on a palm with the legend 'ANGLIS AB AGUILLONIO DUCE PROFLIGATIS (The English defeated by the Duc d'Aiguillon), AD SANCTUM CATUODUM M. DCC. LVIII. (At St Cast, 1758), 64 mm diameter, edge bruises, very fine QTY: (1)NOTE:The Battle of Saint Cast was a military engagement during the Seven Years' War on the French coast between British naval and land expeditionary forces and French coastal defence forces. Royal Balloon School Medal, 1907, gilt metal, the obverse with conjoined bust of Edward VII & Queen Alexandra, the reverse with airship flying over the town of Farnborough, 32mm diameter, edge bruise, good very fine, together with another copper example, a uniface prize medal, reverse engraved 'Improved Shooting 1908 Sap. C. Edwards', a belt buckle with the same design by Bouwerie Lane' numbered 262 and other commemorative ballooning and airship medals including Santos Dumont bronze commemorative medal, Gordon Bennett Zurich 1909, Aero Club de France, reverse dated 13 June 1907 and other medals QTY: (20)NOTE:The Royal Balloon School Medal was produced to commemorate the First Public Flight of the Military Airship 'Nulli Secundus' (Second to none) on 5 October 1907. It was flown by Colonel John Capper and the American aviator Samuel Cody from Farnborough to London. After flying over the city, the airship circled St Paul's Cathedral but strong headwinds forced her to land at Crystal Palace. The flight covered 50 miles and lasted 3 hours, 25 minutes. The medals were presented to various members of the Royal Engineers who were involved in the project or serving at the Balloon School at the time.

ΛΑΓΓΕ', the reverse with relevant scenes, 4.4cm diameter; together with another bronze medal, Konrad Lange, 1839, probably produced in Munich, commemorating the construction of the Othonian University (later University of Athens), obverse with bust of King Otto, signed under truncation, reverse showing the principal facade of the university, 4.4cm diameter; and a French bronze medal of Charles Nicolas Fabvier, Paris, 1829, the Philhellene shown in profile to sinister, signed under truncation 'FEUVRIER F.', 4cm diameter; each medal set circa 1960 in wood frames with giltwood inner border, 8.9cm square (8)Provenance: Collection of the late Basile Mostras (1904-1967), Greek Ambassador to the United Kingdom, 1953-1956. A Fine Pair Of Dutch 18-Bore Flintlock Holster PistolsBy Nicolas Renier A Mastricht, Early 18th CenturyWith bright three-stage barrels each with large brass fore-sight centred on a border of engraved foliage, turned girdles each with an engraved border of repeated foliage, breeches each with engraved foliate grotesque mask, ormolu-covered tangs each extending to form a ramped mount over the rear of the breech and engraved with foliage, bright border engraved flat bevelled locks each signed in capitals and decorated with a bearded grotesque mask on the tail, cocks decorated with foliage en suite, pans each with raised lip fitting into a recess on each steel, the latter stamped '.3' and '..3' respectively, artificially figured moulded full stocks (some splits and repairs, one butt broken through), ormolu mounts cast and chased in relief and comprising pierced foliate side-plates each involving monster-head terminals, a cherub and a portrait bust in an oval centred on a martial trophy supported by bound captives, spurred pommels each with a foliated demi-figure on both sides and a grotesque mask cap framed by foliage, trigger-guards each with bevelled edges and a portrait medallion between foliage on the bow, turned faceted ramrod-pipes, brass-capped wooden ramrods, and in little used condition retaining most of their bright and gilt finish (2) 30.3 cm. barrels Footnotes:Nicolas Renier, also spelt Reynier or Regnier, is recorded in Maastricht and Liège between 1694 and 1706For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
