A cusped D-section silver hoop expanding to a scaphoid plaque with hardstone insert, intaglio profile bust of Mars with helmet and spear. 6.35 grams, 25mm overall, 20.69mm internal diameter (approximate size British W, USA 11, Europe 25.0, Japan 24"). (1"). Property of a European gentleman living in the UK; formerly in a private collection formed in the 1990s. Cf. Ruseva-Slokoska, L. Roman Jewellery, Sofia, 1991, item 189. Fine condition.
66 AD. Lugdunum mint. Obv: NERO CLAVD CAESAR AVG GER P M TR P IMP P P legend with laureate head right and globe at front of truncation. Rev: Roma seated left on cuirass, foot on helmet, holding Victory and parazonium with shields behind; S - C at sides, ROMA in exergue. 23.51 grams. RIC 268; Sear 1961 variant (bust). Good very fine.

Dated 1815 AD. First restoration. Obv: profile bust with LOUIS XVIII ROI DE FRANCE legend. Rev: crowned arms within wreath with PIECE DE 20 FRANCS legend with date and 'lis' and 'R' mintmarks below for London mint. 6.42 grams. KM# 706.7; Fr. 531; see Dyer, G. P. A New History of the Royal Mint, p.473 for details of this issue. After Napoleon Bonaparte escaped from Elba, it is claimed that Louis XVIII gave consent to the striking of French 20 franc gold coins at the Royal Mint, London, for the use of the British army to pay the troops in France in 1815, in the period before the battle of Waterloo; the French minting authorities were appalled and minting in London ceased after striking 871,581 coins; for a while, they were accepted in for exchange by the French mints and the majority were smelted; it has been suggested that the use of the letter 'R' as a mintmark was connected with the banker Rothschild who is said to have supported the issue. Good very fine. Scarce.

Rev: cross over quadrilateral with annulet at centre with +EADRIEDONHIÐ legend for the moneyer Eadred at Hythe mint. 1.22 grams. Found Burmarsh, Kent, UK, 2015. S. 1254; N. 845. 1820-1830 AD. Obv: profile bust with COLUMBIA legend. Rev: Justice, holding scales and sword. 2.85 grams. Davis -; Bell -; see Kyle, M. H., Numismatica Canada, volume 2, no.7, September 2003, pp.148-156 for information. It has been suggested that these pieces originate in British Columbia, Canada but the frequency in which they are encountered in the UK makes it possible that they are English; there are some thirteen obverse dies and fourteen reverses apparently recorded for the type. A restrung necklace of consisting of glazed composition beads of cylindrical and annular shapes and round carnelian beads; amulets consisting of two plaques with name of Osiris; two seated figures of Isis; two Taweret; 'nefer' sign; a plaque with standing ibis; a large Pataikos; bust of Isis wearing tripartite wig and cow horn and sun disc crown; an Eye of Horus; two carnelian poppy head amulets. 27 grams, 39cm (15 1/4"). Fine condition. From a collection of the early 20th century.
