A French art nouveau 18ct gold and gemset locket with mirror, of oval outline, swivelling to open, and cast in bas relief with the bust of a girl in profile, her hair piled in a loose bun with escaping tendril curls, her filmy dress revealing one breast, with ribbons and flowers, and set against an open flattened poppy, suggesting sleep - thus a dream - or an opiate-induced fantasy; the girl wearing a rose cut diamond choker, with an emerald in her hair and a ruby-centred flower on her dress; verso plain; with swivelling suspensory loop, stamped twice with oval weevil mark (French 1864-1919), and an oval bale; interior with one side containing a chamfer-edged mirror, the other with a vacant glazed and satin-lined panel; length with bale 5.5cm, gross weight 23.21g
A small collection of carved, armorial and similar jewels, the first an unusual steel signet ring with the arms of the Kitalinski family, the shank lined with yellow precious metal assumed to be 18ct gold; also another signet ring, stamped '18ct' set with an intaglio carved bloodstone depicting arms and the motto 'Percussa Resurgo' ('Struck down, I arise'), possibly for the Jordan family; together with a third ring horizontally set with a pale grey and white shell cameo depicting the bust of a young woman emerging from clouds; and also a small fob set with an intaglio carved rock crystal depicting the head of a youthful Orpheus with a miniature lyre; ring sizes respectively K, Q½ and F (4)
