Er studierte an der dortigen Kunstakademie, war 1905 auf der internationalen Kunstausstellung im Glaspalast München vertreten und wurde dafür mit der kleinen goldenen Medaille ausgezeichnet. Barth wurde zum königlich bayerischen Professor ernannt und erhielt nach drei Jahren die große goldene Medaille zu Leipzig.
