Manner of Jean-Antoine Houdon, a sculpted white marble bust of Diana the huntress, late 19th century, the maiden portrayed looking to dexter, the hair loosely tied and with crescent moon diadem, draped around the truncation, on a waisted circular socle, 61cm high Condition Report: The surface of this bust is quite stained overall, with grey marks particularly to the back of the bust, the hair and parts of the chest, and there is darker scuffing to the rear of the socle. There is also an area of yellowish residue to the lowermost part of the integral base at the back, either this is just a mark or possibly an adhesive agent, perhaps where the bust was joined to the socle. There is some dirt in the recesses between the chest and the drapery.Aside from one or two very minor scuffs and scratches, no areas of structural damage have been detected.Condition Report Disclaimer

His arch rivalry with prime minister William Pitt the Younger is also well recorded.George Leader is recorded as a wax modeller with a workshop at 188 Oxford Street, London. He is said to have exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1792-1804. He may be related to P. H. Leader, also a wax modeller. A relief by the latter sculptor, also executed in boxwood, is in the collection of the V&A, London, accession number A.24-1939.Condition Report: The bust bears the usual minor marks commensurate with age, and the boxwood has naturally patinated to include lighter and darker areas.there is an old split running down the left shoulder (circa 2-3cm long), and another, shorter, to the lowermost edge of the socle. There are more shallow surface scratches to the rear of the socle, one possibly a hairline crack. There is a small, old chip to the rear drapery. Overall this bust is in perfectly presentable condition.Condition Report Disclaimer
An Italian white marble bust of a pastoral maiden, circa 1880, portrayed with a scarf tied around flowing curls and wearing rustic dress, with a border of roses below the truncation, 58cm high; presented on an Italian green serpentine marble plinth, carved with ribbons and floral swags, the bust 60cm high, the bust and pedestal 110cm high overall Condition Report: The surface of the marble is quite granular and a little weathered, which has resulted in some loss of definition to the carving including to the edges of the hair, lace and flowers. One tiny chip to the edge of the medallion, and some nibbling to the edges. There are handful of shallow indentations to the hair and chest, also due to wear. The bust has an old pin to the rear truncation, probably from being previously mounted. The plinth is sectional and has a break to the base, which would benefit from stabilisation. Some chips and scratches overall.Condition Report Disclaimer
