Woodland Period Double Bust Style Birdstone. Williams Co. Ohio. black and cream gneiss. Size: 3 x 3.75 in. (approx). In very fine condition with erosion and numerous mineral and soil deposits, overall. Drilled fully through from bottom up on one side, and another hole was started but not finished. Large white parian plaque c1880's - 90's depicting female bust. Bears initial W.A.H. and inscribed St. Cecilia, patron saint of music. In the Arts & Crafts manner. Framed and behind glass, with original, unopened back. The reverse may reveal a factory mark or may details, we are however leaving it undisturbed. c 1880's - 1900. Measures 54cm x 54cm inc frame.
dating: late 18th Century provenance: Spain, Smooth, two-stage, 16 mm cal. barrels, octagonal in the first part bearing three floral decorations and three gilded lilies, on gold-inlaid cross and gunsmith crowned stamp 'GRE / DAR / GUI / ANO', gold-inlaid as well, frame with lilies at the base. Girdle with floral frame with traces of gilding and some moulding. Second part of the barrel is round, with thick moulding at the nozzle. Tangs engraved with leaves, gilded vents. Nice, flintlocks with flat lock plate bearing crowned brand 'AR / GUI / ANO', floral and frame engravings. Cock's base chiselled with leaves, twisted throw, pan with leaves en suite, batterie base with a shell, in the bottom part of the external spring a spiral decoration. Wooden, full stocks (one restored at the grip's base) chiselled with flowers at the barrel's tang. Iron mounts, thick counter-plates engraved with leaves and traces of gilding, trigger guards with a bust on the remains of gilded background. Butt-plates with a bust surrounded by frames with engraved and chiselled leaves, and with traces of gilding. Wooden ramrods. length 38,5 cm.
dating: 18th Century provenance: Central Italy, Smooth-bore, three-stage, 12 mm cal. barrels, octagonal first part, then of sixteen facets and finally round after the rings; flintlocks, finely chiselled and engraved with floral motifs, Briar-root, full stocks (small repairs) with beautiful, brass mounts, engraved and partially pierced with masks at the pommels (butt-plates with masks in high-relief), female busts with a lance on trigger-guards, female bust on escutcheons and another mask under the barrel, the rest with floral motifs. Grooved ramrod holders, brass-tipped wooden ramrods. length 47.5 cm.
dating: provenance: France, Long, smooth-bore, round, 14 mm cal. barrel, with square base and rib, the base finely chiselled with floral motifs under the bust, then signed 'GOVR ROYAL A ORCHAMPS VENNE', fore-sight; tang engraved with trophies; flintlock with batterie chiselled with a mask and cock's screw with floral motifs; wooden, full stock, with iron mounts, finely chiselled with trophies, masks, snakes and floral motifs. Bone-tipped wooden ramrod. length 54 cm.
dating: 15th Century provenance: Europe, Composed of iron, riveted rings. Realized for bust protection, with short sleeves. Provided with slightly open neckline. Lower border with a small tear both on the front and back part. Some part of the rings missing, mostly on the lower border, however well preserved overall. Probably used by the crossbowmen or archers. height circa 80 cm.
