A bronzed metal bust of Admiral Togo, wearing full uniform, script marks recto and verso, 20cm high. Togo, later Count Heihachiro Togo (1848-1934), Japanese Naval Commander, born in Kagoshima and educated at the Naval Academy, Etajima and as a cadet with the Royal Navy. He served in the Sino-Japanese war (1894) and was commander-in-chief during the Russo-Japanese war (1904-05), notably bombarding Port Arthur and defeating the Russian fleet at Tsushima in 1905. Awarded the Order of Merit in 1906 and created count 1907.
