A collection of South-East Asian Schist carvings, comprising a male bust, possibly Gandhara,19.5cm high, a similar carved bust, 25cm high, a female example, 21cm high, and another example of a young male, 24cm high, together with a carved frieze fragment depicting two snake charmers, 23cm wide another example depicting figures between columns, 33cm wide (6)Condition report: Remnants of paint, possibly not contemporary. Losses, wear and roughness due to the nature of items. Some of the bases are loose.
Attributed to Thomas Barber of Nottingham (1771-1843) - Portrait of Richard Morley, bust length, oil on canvas, 62 x 55cm Richard Morley (1775-1855) was born at Sneinton Manor Nottingham, the son of a small farmer and hosiery manufacturer. He went into partnership with his brother John trading as I & R Morley and greatly developed the hosiery business in Nottingham whilst John opened a London warehouse. Richard Morley was Mayor of Nottingham in 1836 and 1841 and Alderman, Justice of the Peace and Chairman of the Board of Guardians. He was particularly active in social welfare and instrumental in the establishment of The Mechanics Institute Behind glass in the original ornate Victorian gilt frame
