The Following Three Lots are from a Collection of Early Theatre and Opera Related Photographs, Mezzontints and Engravings, 18/19th and early 20th Century- After John Singer Sargent 1856-1925- Portrait in profile, a gentleman bust-length, signed and date 1912, photogravure, inscribed by the sitter on a separate sheet and attached below, it is plausible that the sitter is connected with either the theatre or the opera as Sargent was a key figure during this period: Note: Sargent refereed to his sketches of the sitters as "Mug`s" and was prolific, dashing them off for clients and many friends throughout his career. Around this time Sargent painted Tamara Karsavina in the title role of "Thamar", C.1911-12. In December of 1887 Sargent attends the first night of Macbeth at the Lyceum Theater with the actors Henry Irving and Ellen Terry in the leading roles. In 1889 he did a painting of sir Henry Irving, now destroyed; and one of Ellen Terry as Lady Macbeth which Henry Irving owned and loaned to the World Columbian Exposition, Chicago, 1893 and now owned by the Tate gallery, London.
