A GERMAN WHEEL-LOCK MECHANISM, late 17th century, with 7 1/2in. flat plate engraved with scrollwork inhabited by a griffin against a dotted ground, enclosed wheel, cock spring with engraved fence depicting the portrait bust of the Green Man, cock decorated en suite with the plate (pan-cover missing).

This portrait of Ian Horstein depicts Epsteins second grandson the son of his daughter Peggy Jean and Norman Hornstein and was conceived and cast in 1942. The only other known full bust of Ian with arms is in the Auckland City Art Gallery New Zealand.

She was the daughter of the 5th Viscount Gage and was also an author and friend of Virginia Woolf.

Chalmers was a Scottish preacher and social reformer and there is a similar bust of Chalmers in the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, see ‘The Concise Catalogue of the Scottish National Portrait Gallery’ compiled by Helen Smailes p.p.62-63."

Kuchler uniformed bust of Lord Nelson left rev. view of the battle in progress 48mm. sometime pierced and plugged and now fitted in a silver frame (lacking lunettes) very fine for the issue and the frame engraved ÔGeorge Willson (sic) RevengeÕ in upright serifed caps George Wilson is confirmed as a Quarter-Gunner H.M.S. ÒRevengeÓ at Trafalgar where he was wounded and later received a grant of £10 from the Patriotic Fund for his injuries. Other brief details are sold with the lot.

DIED - 1805 the neck bearing the legend ENGLAND-EXPECTS-THAT-EVERY-MAN-WILL-DO-HIS-DUTY applied with a rope-twist handle 20cm high impressed marks circa 1905
