Alfred Wilhelm Brandel (German 1889-1973) - Lacquered bronze bust of Napoleon Bonaparte, having a deep brown patina, incised to the reverse A. Brandel FEC, h.16cm Condition Report / Extra Information Height 16cm, width 16cm, depth 8.3cm. Dark brown patination. Minor lacquer loss to a few extremities. Otherwise no apparent faults.
After Mary Beale 19th century English school - Three quarter length portrait of a maiden with fruit, oil on canvas, re-lined and with restoration, 90 x 68.5cm Condition Report / Extra Information UV lamp shows some areas of overpainting, largely to extremities, also area approx 1x4" above basket of fruit, face bust and arms with very small overpainting spots only, only one spot of overpainting to face below left eye, further overpainting around left shoulder, left elbow and above right arm. Appears to have been recently restored. Paint good and stable, and cleaned back.
An undated archaistic broad flat-section gold hoop in 1st-2nd century AD style, with repoussé pellets to the shoulders, discoid cell and inset amber-coloured glass plaque with bearded bust in high-relief. 4.29 grams, 24mm overall, 17mm internal diameter (approximate size British N, USA 6 1/2, Europe 17, Japan 13) (3/4"). Ex Swiss collection; acquired 1980s.[No Reserve] Very fine condition.

A mixed group of bronze finger rings comprising: one with octagonal plaque, Cupid with flowers; one with elliptical plaque, male bust; one with rectangular panel, inscribed 'XEPE...'; one with discoid bezel with horse and figure; one with incised solar motif; one with mask modelled in the half-round. 27 grams total, 16-23mm (1/2 - 1"). 20th century AD. A mixed group comprising: marble figurine of Amun-Ra ka-Mut-ef with crown and dorsal pillar; a glazed composition bust with collar and ankh amulet. 131 grams total, 80mm (3"). A canteen of six silver-gilt spoons in neo-gothic style, each with a pear-shaped bowl, hexagonal-section shank and diamond-shaped knop finial; a band of three-strand pointillé ornament to the inner and outer faces of the bowl; to the inner face, a stamped maker's mark of a cross and chevron and a stamped profile male bust; presented in a leather-faced case with silk lining marked 'E. Keitz / Strasbourg'. 261 grams, 14.5x10.5cm (5 3/4 x 4"). Property of a Lady; by gift.[No Reserve] Fine condition.

A mixed group comprising: a chessman seal matrix with intaglio cockerel and bungled 'PRIVESV' (I am private) legend; a chessman seal matrix with sript 'T' and crown above; a chessman seal matrix with pellets and cross motif; a chessman seal matrix with openwork trefoil handle, advancing horse motif; a silver Georgian seal matrix with intaglio mermaid with hand-mirror dressing her hair; a segmented matrix head with inset glass panel, intaglio double-headed eagle motif; an octagonal; gilt-bronze matrix head with flowers and foliage; an elliptical carnelian insert with profile bust of a youthful male, cudgel to his shoulder; a segmented seal head with black glass insert, 'Harriet' in copperplate script. 34 grams total, 12-25mm (1/2 - 1"). See Sear 13648.The style of this coin, with the errors in the obverse legend, small flan and light weight suggest it might be a lcoal, barbarous copy. [No Reserve] Near very fine.

Metal detecting group including: short cross issues (4; penny of Richard I, cut half, 2 cut farthings); long cross issues (various pennies); Tudor (Henry VII to Elizabeth I, pennies to sixpence; including including Henry VII facing bust halfgroat and a contemporary plated forgery of same and Elizabeth I three halfpence, 1575); Stuart (including shilling 'star' mintmark); foreign (including Venice); Barnstaple 1811 token sixpence plus some fragments and miscellaneous pieces. 95 grams total. Found Devon, 1980s-2000s.[100+, No Reserve] Poor to about fine; some damaged/fragmentary, a few better.
3rd century AD. 198-200 AD, Septimius Severus, military mint on the Danube border, 'limes' issue. Obv: L SEPT SEV AVG IMP XI PART MAX legend with laureate head right. Rev: AEQVITATI AVGG, Aequitas standing left, holding scales and cornucopia; Gordian III, imitative. Obv: IMP GORDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG legend with laureate and draped bust right. Rev: IOVI PROPVGNTAORI legend with Jupiter walking right, hurling thunderbolt and holding eagle. 2.71, 2.24 grams. Limes version of RIC IV-i, 122c; Cohen 21; Sear 6259 variant (obverse legend)/unofficial dies. See Wildwinds.com (first coin"). The coin of Gordian III is likely the product of an ancient counterfeiter; the reverse type of Jove Propugnatori was not struck for Gordian III in any official Roman or Limes mint for any denomination and, in addition, there are two errors in the reverse legend, which is grammatically incorrect, instead of IOVI PROPVGNATORI or IOVIS PROPVGNATOR legends which had previously been used for Severus Alexander (but with Jupiter in a different attitude; see RIC 235-236 for IOVI PROPVGNATORI and RIC 240-241 for IOVIS PROPVGNATOR with Jupiter walking left, holding thunderbolt. [No Reserve] Good fine.
