A Meissen armorial reticulated box and cover (Drüselkästchen), late 19th centuryAfter the model by J.J. Kaendler, in the form of a Baroque tureen and cover, with panels of gilt-edged pierced scroll- and strapwork alternating with panels of gilt scrollwork, each side with a landscape panel withing a moulded cartouche, flanked by applied floral and drapery swags held by putti, the handles in the form of female busts, burnished gilt interior, the cover applied with two cartouches with the arms of Saxony and Poland below a crown supported on a cushion by two putti, each end applied with a cartouche painted with a huntsman, the rim with four smaller cartouches depicting couples in landscapes, alternating with narrow panels depicting puce harbour scenes against the burnished gilt ground, the inside of the cover moulded with indianische Blumen heightened in enamels, burnished gilt rim, 25.5cm across; 18.5cm high, crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue, gilt numeral 8., incised model number B.136, impressed 66 (some restoration to underside of box and two feather on bust handles) (2)Footnotes:The original model was made for Maria Josepha of Saxony by Kaendler in 1738.For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

Medieval Dagger Pommel, Circa, 15th-16th century AD. Copper-alloy, 63.37 grams. 35.99 x 33.01 mm. A cast bronze dagger pommel in the form of a female bust (Maiden) wearing a horned type headdress. A Dictionary of English Costume by Cunnington & Beard describes the horned headdress as being a that which is worn with wide templers which are wired up to resemble horns from which a pendant veil curtained the back of the head. It was worn from 1410 to 1420, but rarely to 1460, although, the Surtees Society's Townley Mysteries in 1460 notes that " 'she is hornyd like a kowe.. for syn' indicating that at that stage the style was persisting. Medieval Boy Bishop Token. Circa, 15th century AD. Lead, 6.03 g, 28.62 mm. A token imitating the silver groat issued during the festival of St Nicholas. Obverse: Mitred bust between S N, PIE nIChOLAE ORA PRO nOB ('Holy Saint Nicholas, pray for us'). Reverse: Cross with pellets in each quarter, legends around.
