A Northern Irish Orange Order Master's Silver Jewel of Office, laureate bust of William III right within wreath, topped by large crown, legend on scrolled ribband below, 1640 ERNEST AUGUSTUS ORANGE LODGE - MASTER, the detail applied to a gilt background, 128 x 92mm. Extremely fine. The lodge named for Prince Ernest Augustus (1771-1851).
A Charles I cylindrical counter box, the pull-off cover with medallic bust of Charles I to left, the base with a bust of Queen Henrietta Maria, and containing a rare set of thirty three counters of the Kings & Queens of England, in imitation of engraving (by or after Simon van de Passe), each a standing figure with an armorial reverse, namely Edward the Confessor, William I, Harold, William I, William II, Henry I, Stephen, Henry II, Richard I, John, Henry III, Edward II, Edward III, Richard II, Henry IV, Edward IV, Edward V, Richard III, Henry VII, Henry VIII, Edward VI, Mary, Elizabeth, James I, Queen Anne of Denmark, Henry, Prince of Wales, Charles I, Henrietta Maria, Charles, Prince of Wales; together with Mary, Queen of Scots and Henry, Earl of Darnley. The set of counters believed to have been issued in 1632; the medal on the pierced box cover, and that on the base, in the style of Thomas Rawlins, the sides three panels each of two mythical beasts, 15/16th in (2.3cm) high.
A Charles II small silver heart-shaped locket, in commemoration of his marriage to Queen Catherine of Braganza, 1662, the lid struck with his crowned bust to left, dividing C-R, the base with her portrait bust to left, with long, shaped hair, approx 26x21mm. *References: Medallic illustrations, Pl XL VII, 10, for portrait type; cf Greta Hecket Collection (lot 143)
Charles II, The Restoration, a silver Medal, 1660, by Thomas Simon, bust right, rev. tree with three crowns, TANDEM REVIRESCET, 33mm, shaped suspension loop. Fine. Reference: Medallic Illustrations 453/38. The medal, whilst contemporary, is a solid cast of a medal originally struck in two pieces united by the rim.
A glazed silver Medal of the Blackburn Pitt Club, 1814, by T. Halliday, named on the rim to Henry Hargreaves, 'Admitted 11th May, 1820', bust of Pitt left, rev. legend within and around wreath, 42mm. Very fine, but stained beneath the glass. A number of Pitt Clubs around the country issued medals to their membership. The Blackburn medals are amongst the rarest.
Three pique snuff boxes the first oval tortoiseshell, English, circa 1720, the lid inlaid in engraved silve and mother of pearl with a small bust against a shell design, silver sides, 7.5cm, 3in a circular gilt-metal and tortoiseshell box, Birmingham, circa 1745, the lid and base rose engine-turned, the lid further inlaid in pique fil with a vase of flowers, 6cm, 2.375in a navette-shaped lacquered metal box, Birmingham or Pontypool, circa 1770, inlaid in silver pique coule with initials GL amid flower garlands and sprays, 10.8cm, 4.25in and a tortoiseshell-lined oval bo"te ˆ pomponne, Rhineland or Paris, circa 1775, decorated with medallions of putti on a fluted ground, 8.5cm, 3.375in (4)
