Attributed To Charles Ricketts (1866-1931)/Charles Haslewood Shannon/ bust portrait facing right, embossed copper roundel, inscribed, 7cm (2.75") diameter and another Fontis Ad Originem (for the origin of the fountain) embossed copper roundel of a crouching figure drinking from a spring/Charles Ricketts and Charles Shannon were life long artistic and personal partners, together they founded the Dial Magazine (1889-1897) and the Vale Press. Shannon`s portrait of Ricketts `The Man in an Inverness Cloak` shows the sitter`s head in profile `turning away from the 20th Century to think only of the 15th`; Ricketts admired this portrait and the roundel of Shannon could be seen to be doing the same./Provenance: B G Burrough Colyton Devon q.v.
